A man from Brandon who is 35 was killed in a construction site accident in Barrett on Friday afternoon.
His name was Mitchell J. Brethorst and he was operating a backhoe at the time of the accident. A tree fell onto the full swing backhoe, which pinned Mitchell in the machine.
He was digging around a large cottonwood tree that was to be removed to help prepare the site for a brand new bus garage facility, as reported by the other members of his construction crew. He had dug on two sides of the tree before the big cottonwood came tumbling over. He died on the scene. Using a chainsaw to remove the tree off the backhoe, rescue crew workers tried to save Mitchell. A semi-wrecker hauled the tree away.
